En 2019, con la llegada del gobierno interino, presidido por Juan Guaidó, Venezuela, ya estaba sumida en una crisis aguda tras cerrar el año con una inflación superior al 7.374,4%, esto de acuerdo con el reporte de la Comisión de Finanzas de la Asamblea Nacional (AN). Así fue como tras una serie de acuerdos, a principios de febrero de 2019 cientos de cargamentos con medicinas y alimentos provenientes de varios países comenzaron a llegar al centro de acopio ubicado en el ingreso del puente binacional Tienditas, en Cúcuta, el cual fue dispuesto por el gobierno de Iván Duque para la recepción de esos insumos. La finalidad era ingresar la ayuda desde Colombia hacia Venezuela el sábado 23 de febrero.
